Abstract:

UPIC is a computer system to compose electronic music by way of graphic (object) notation. There were four versions: 1977, 1983, 1987 (including real-time synthesis), 1991 (the first commercial version). The authors present technical and musical characteristics ranging from the opportunities with regard to synthesis to the realisation of sequences.
