Antoine Goléa analyses the short history of musique concrète in terms of three trends: musique concrète as “directly expressive” (the early works), the approach towards abstraction, musique concrète’s tendency towards pure music and the most important works which combine these trends. For each trend, he presents different works by Pierre Schaeffer, Pierre Henry, Olivier Messiaen, Pierre Boulez and Michel Philippot.
