Abstract:

Mantra (1970) by Karlheinz Stockhausen is composed for two pianos, antic cymbals, woodblocks and ring modulators. This work combines three music theories: tonal, modal and serial. The author describes the development of the mantra set and analyses the roles of ring modulators in terms of musical structure.
