The author describes the birth of electroacoustic music in Mexico. The first Mexican electroacoustic work, Paraíso de los ahogados, was composed by Carlos Jiménez Mabarak in 1957. The introduction presents some information concerning contemporary music and musical research in this country. In the following sections, the author briefly details important Mexican works and the relationships between this corpus and the work of other composers as well as the musical theories of three composers: Julián Carillo, Carlos Chávez, and Conlon Nancarrow.
