Abstract:

The author describes two sound installations by Catherine Ikam and Jean-Louis Flery using the same interactive system: Le messager (1995) and Alex (1996). They contain a visual projection of a virtual face accompanied by spatialised synthetic vocal sounds. The visitor can modify the virtual face and sounds by an infrared sensor. The author presents the technical (IRCAM musical station, CHANT software, Adrien Lefèvre’s library for MAX) and musical realisation (sound parameter controls and spatialisation) of this sound installation.
