Abstract:

The author reflects on the role of technology in music through the buttons on a recorder: rewind, remote, edit, safe, stop, ready, forward, power on. He develops some ideas on the relationships between composer and technology without the involvement of interpretion or performance technique. Furthermore, he discusses the important role of the medium as well as, in his view, the fact that recording has taken on an overly prominent role.
