Abstract:

The author presents a report on electroacoustic music practice in Canada in five parts:

  1. A brief history
  2. Artistic practice: the digital revolution of the 1990s, the role of institutions, the two schools (mixed work and acousmatic music), the marginal nature of electroacoustic music, interpretation, the place of women, composer or sound artist?, the provinces
  3. To earn one’s living: financial opportunities from grants to programmes of assistance
  4. The dispersion of music: traditional and new possibilities, the festivals, the Canadian scene, the European situation
  5. The CEC: its roles and possibilities

To conclude, he proposes some recommendations to enhance the place of electroacoustic music in Canadian society.
