Abstract:

Acoustic ecology devised by R. Murray Schafer concerns the study of noise pollution. This paper presents the main ideas and theories of acoustic ecology: the dominance of the visual above the listening experience, the analysis methods related to the soundscape, relationships between the soundscape and society, the impact of noise on human psychology and the place of Schafer’s ideas in current acoustic ecology.
