Abstract:

After an introduction to well known loudspeaker orchestras (acousmonium, cybernaphone, BEAST - Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre) and a discussion concerning musical and aesthetic considerations, the authors present the M2 diffusion system used at the USSS (University of Sheffield Sound Studios). This flexible system offers new possibilities for performance improvisation using space as a compositional parameter.
