Abstract:

In this brief chapter, the author discusses the basic structures of human hearing and the perception of different aspects of sound: intensity, temporal features, frequency, noise and timbre. He also discusses fusion, combination tones and masking effects, pointing out the compositional implications of these in the context of computer music.
