Abstract:

In this article, the author reviews the work of the Centre for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) in their investigation of the nature of timbre and timbre perception (specifically in musical contexts), and discusses how timbre perception may be modelled in the computer environment through particular synthesis techniques.
