Abstract:

In this paper, the author discusses the potential for creating a digital synthesis system with sufficient knowledge and flexibility to allow the user to interact in a more subjective way with the system, without having to know details of the physics of sound or psychoacoustics. In addressing this potential the author discusses the extent to which artificial intelligence (AI) might be applied to resolve certain issues; he also offers a design proposal for such a system.
