Abstract:

In this essay, the author offers his thoughts regarding several years of research in computer-assisted composition, in particular the extent to which it is possible to design a computer system that can compose (output) a musical composition based on a musical idea (input). He contextualises his discussion through concise descriptions of several of his computer-assisted works.
