This article presents the different activities of the GMEB (Groupe de Musique Expérimentale de Bourges): the research centre, the Gmebaphone (a sound spatialisation system), the Gmebogosse (an electroacoustic instrument for young children), the International Festival of electroacoustic music and the journal “Faire”. The author also reflects on the past and the future of experimental music with a particular focus on listening problems and its two potentialities: close listening (sound analysis) and distance listening (structural analysis).
