Sound Design , Sonic ArtAbstract:
This short article that includes citations of a number of sound examples leads toward a description of what Heiniger calls an audio designer. He makes the following claims - an audio designer: realises and interprets live electronic music, realises and interprets acousmatic (tape) music, realises sound installations and interactive installations and is an instrument builder as well as a sound researcher. The point is that sound artists, sound designers and the like working in audio-visual media need not call themselves musicians as it is the sound at the focus of their work. In so doing, he questions whether a recording of Glenn Gould playing Bach is electronic music and thus places much of our terminology as subject to discussion.
