In this paper, the author discusses two of his past designs for software-based, interactive musical instruments (Epizoo and FMOL), focussing on the importance of visual feedback in the interface. He offers an anaylsis of the current trends in interactive music software, and introduces his latest project under development (2003): the ’reacTable’, a collaborative, interactive music instrument.
