Abstract:

In this paper, the authors survey and critically analyse some of the recent (the decade up to 2006) developments in digital musical instruments that are related to the violin family. Incorporating the personal experiences of traditional string players into their study they present several criteria that may benefit the future development and construction of digital bowed string instruments.
