In this article, the author presents an analysis of Denis Smalley’s Pentes (1974). He focuses on amplitude and frequency profiles as these are most easily thought of in terms of rising and falling contours implied by the work’s title, which means slope. The author’s realisation of a graphic score for the work is also included.
