Abstract:

In this article, the author offers a brief introduction to environmental composition. She then offers a commentary on the soundscape compositions, working practices, and underlying philosophy of Canadian composer Hildegard Westerkamp. This commentary is supported by extracts of a conversation between Westerkamp and author of the article.
