In this interview, Evelyne Gayou reveals the complex personality of Michel Chion from several perspectives: relationships between the composer and his other activities (writer, film maker, essayist, musicologist), his influences (Tintin, Altdorfer, Pollock, Wagner, Thomas Mann), his working method, the role of first person in his text-sound composition, the “sound Chion”, the place of pedagogy, his relationships with other composers and the role of space. Michel Chion exemplifies his responses with numerous extracts of his works and works by other composers, writers and film makers.
