Abstract:

In this interview, Pierre Boulez explains the role of space (spatiality) in his mixed works. He uses space to clarify the non-instrumental sounds, sounds that are from very localized sources and not composed to include spectacular spatial motions. Through several of his works (Répons, Dialogue de l’ombre double, Figures Doubles Prismes, Explosante-fixe), he analyses his composition of space and the various problems that he discovered.
