Abstract:

The author suggests that the works of Maryanne Amacher are much more than sound installations. Sometimes Amacher forces the listener, through the use of deafening noise, into percieving the relative silence that can be found in the micropolyphonic processes within the sounds. Although the works of Amacher come across as radically new, in La Motte-Haber’s view they actually offer a traditional musical development. At the same time Amacher offers a learning space for as yet rarely encountered listening experiences.
