In this chapter, the author, noting that stereo soundtrack recording, mixing and presentation are among the most overlooked aspects of film theory and criticism, attempts to understand why this is the case, considering the large number of consumers who have sophisticated hi-fidelity sound projection systems. His discussion includes an analysis of the soundtrack to Colors (1988).
