Noise Formalism Aleatory Serialism Stochastic Music Probability Theory

In this paper, the author offers a definition of the term ’noise’ in a musical context and presents a history of its use in musical composition until the emergence of electronic music in the 1950s. He then focuses on the noise synthesis techniques of Iannis Xenakis (stochastic process and probability theory), Karlheinz Stockhausen (intuitive techniques within serialism), and Gottfried-Michael Koenig (combining aleatoric processes with serial techniques). The author then discusses the primarily technical aspects of noise synthesis techniques that he himself has developed.
