Abstract:

This long essay has been important for the electroacoustic music scene in Italy. It classifies and shows the history of the electroacoustic instruments (Telharmonium, Ondes Martenot, Theremin, Novachord, Trautonium, synthesizers, Hammond, MIDI, computer, software). The article translates and revises the entry "Electronic Instruments” of the The New Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments (Stanley Sadie, ed.), Macmillan, London, 1984.
