This article (published in Musica/Realtà n. 52, marzo 1997, pp. 65-78) analytically presents the fundamental concepts of Pierre Schaeffer’s research and discusses its impact. It includes remarks on the notions of listening and the sound object as well as the theoretical basis of concrete music.
