The author analyses the compositional processes found in his piece “Donna che si copre le orecchie per proteggersi dal rumore del tuono”, for flute and synthetic sounds (1992). He focuses on his collaboration with the flutist Riccardo Ghiani, the algorithmic synthesis of the sounds, the score and the performance. This article includes many images taken from the score and from the diagrams corresponding to the digital instruments.
