The author presents a history of electroacoustic performance and examples of limits imposed by “style”. He examines two software programs (Max, and the Conductor Program) and four system models (Appleton’s Synclavier, Boulez’ model for Repons, Risset’s Disklavier, and Dexter Morill’s system for Walden Nocturnes).
