In this article, the author describes the process of composing an electroacoustic music piece (Plastiches) using a 5.1 surround sound system for studio monitoring and diffusion in a concert hall. Some of the limitations and advantages of surround 5.1 systems for electroacoustic music composition are discussed and some suggestions are made in relation to achieving a more effective concert performance.
