The author explains how Pierre Schaeffer is the first to propose a sonic philosophy. Electroacoustic music calls for a new type to work based on a new approach to listening as well as new ways of working on spectral components of sound. The theories of Pierre Schaeffer are of relevance to the nature of new electroacoustic instruments, the explanation of timbre perception, the role of notation and our approach, in general to occidental musical tradition.
