Il termine include un insieme di strumenti che sono stati riconosciuti per la loro importanza durante l’evoluzione della musica elettroacustica. sebbene di grande interesse e significato per lo sviluppo della musica, lo stato attuale del glossario non si propone di offrire una lista completa degli strumenti pionieristici (sviluppi futuri nella bibliografia e nei collegamenti ipertestuali appartengono alle prossime fasi del progetto EARS).
