Normalmente i compositori di musica elettroacustica non tracciano partiture descrittive (visual score) del proprio lavoro. Alcune eccezioni inglobano:
- il caso di partiture che contengono le procedure per permettere ad altri di ricreare un brano.
- una rappresentazione del materiale elettroacustico per facilitare l’esecuzione di uno strumentista o cantante nel caso di un brano di musica mista.
- una rappresentazione dei movimenti del suono per la spazializzazione di una esecuzione complessa o di una installazione.

Poiché le componenti significative e strutturali della musica elettroacustica non si conformano a precise caratteristiche salienti, come invece accade nella maggior parte delle composizioni vocali o strumentali, le opzioni scelte per rappresentare questa musica possono variare enormemente da una partitura grafica all’altra.
