Given its emphasis on sound as a means of human communication (as well as its scientific description through acoustics), Acoustic Communication privileges the study of the making of sound as a human, social, and signifying activity. Given the status of speech and language within human communication, there is a particular emphasis on the human voice, and vocal soundmaking.
