The construction of Immersive Environments is one of the key areas of creative practice, research and development in the field of Virtual Reality. An Immersive Environment utilises digital technologies in the creation of a space in which the user(s) experience perceptual stimulation (normally multimedia) through any number or type of technological interfaces, to the end of engaging with a fictional world or situation. A frequent key aim in the creation of Immersive Environments is to enable the user(s) to interact in some meaningful way with their virtual surroundings, this often being achieved through the use of sensors (e.g. of movement) which control the triggering of further sensory stimuli.
