Waveset techniques involve the representation of a sound in terms of portions or packets of the waveform of three zero-crossings (i.e. points at which the amplitude is zero). This paradigm of sound analysis/resynthesis is therefore in some senses less ’arbitrary’ than dividing the temporal evolution of a sound according to fixed, discrete and equal units of any given length. Numerous DSP operations are based on the use of wavesets.
