Scrubbing is a technique associated with reel to reel tape recorders. If the motor of the tape recorder is disengaged, the tape may be moved manually against the playback head. Conventionally used as a technique to identify a detailed edit point, the technique was also widely used as a sound manipulation technique, i.e., time-varying transposition and backwards forwards alternation. Thus scrubbing can also be used as a form of Creative Abuse. Today this technique can be digitally simulated.
